You can't keep an O2 sim permanently abroad.
They only allow occasional use when travelling which is defined as 63 days in any 4 month period.

@BazG66 You should think about switching over to a Pay and Go International sim, which you can keep going. You only need to make a chargeable call or send a text once every six months to keep it active. You can switch your monthly contract number to the Pay and Go sim.
You should also consider downloading and using WhatsApp, which you could use on a French phone number. If you and the ones you wish to keep in contact with have the app, you can keep in touch over WiFi for free.
