Hi
I need advice on which Mobile Broadband package would be best for me.
When I am on-call for work I carry around a netbook to fix any issues that arise. If called I usually connect to the Internet via a WiFi Hotspot if one is available and if not use a T-Mobile Web n Walk dongle. As a backup I use the hotspot tether to my smartphone but this seems to be the slowest and least reliable so I dont rely on this method.
However, since the summer the T-Mobile device doesnt work and as its old want to upgrade to one of the O2 Mobile Broadband packages.
As I probably only need to use the dongle less that ten times a year with a very small amount of data I am guessing a pay as you go with a daily use amount is probably the way to go, however I dont know how this will work.
Do I need to pre-purchase days in advance or does the O2 Management/connection software allow you to buy a day as an when I get called?
If I do need to pre-purchase days, how long do these stay valid before they are lost?
Do I need to purchase days/use the device every so many days/weeks/months else it will be cut off?
For reference my old Web n Walk would allow me to pre-purchase £5 which got deducted based on data use, stayed valid for up to a year as long as I used the device every 6 months. Very efficient - and is probably why they have now cut me off 🐵
Thanks
Martin

Took the plunge and purchased the alcatel one-touch x230d usb modem dongle for £20 which arrived this morning.
Installation was simple and the Connection Manager software allows you to register the device and buy credits on the internet without pre-loading/credits already being present.
Therefore I can carry it around with my small netbook and if work does call me to perform a fix I can use the device to buy a 24hr £2 credit to gain access to the wider internet. Perfect !
Thanks very much everybody.
