I joined O2 in November 2011, on a 12 month sim-only contract. I paid line rental one month in advance.
Last month, I changed my tariff (still on a 12 month sim-only plan). Again, I was charged one month in advance.
This is where I get a bit confused - what happens to the line rental I paid in advance when I first took out the contract? Do I ever get that back? Because it seems to me that at the moment, I've paid for two months in advance rather than one, or been charged for twice for one month.
Can anyone shed some light on this situation?
I apolgise if this is confusing - I'm most confused myself, and haven't been able to find anything on the O2 website that makes things any clearer.

As I said if double then there is an error and ring 202 to query it
Remember that inclusive mins at new tariff would have only 30 mins not any balance of mins from old tariff for use on 1st may how many mins were you charged for on the 1st on bill?

Check your bills but the 1 month in advance if you upgraded would have not applied as you just changed to a newer version you would have had a double bill if it had been charged again.
At end of contract you give 30 days notice and then use the 1 month up front charge.
Has that helped?

Thanks. The email I got from O2 with regards to changing my tariff said:
Thanks for your request. We're changing your tariff to O2 simplicity 600 12 month.
You'll also have the 500MB UK Data, O2 Travel Bolt Ons you asked for.
It'll cost £16.00 a month.
Your new tariff includes:
600 any-network mins, 500 O2 to O2 mins, unlimited texts
You'll be able to start using your new tariff on 1st May 2013. We'll cancel your old tariff of O2 simplicity 600 12 month at the same time, and text you on to confirm when we make the change.
Changing tariff means the charges on your next bill will show:
- A day's credit for line rental from your old tariff as you've already been billed for this.
- A day's charge for the new tariff line rental, plus one month charge for the new tariff line rental in advance, as usual.
You'll see these details on your next bill. You can check it at http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2account.
Regards,
O2
Then this month's bill came to £32.09

Also I would edit out the telephone number from your reply.

So you changed 1 day before your billing date after re reading the full text again.
So the previous month in advance at the old rate was credited to your bill for 1 day already paid left to use and the 1 day at the new rate added then the month in advance so that would be totally correct

Ooops, thanks for that
I just looked at my next bill - it shows the basic line rental, plus extra call charges.
I'm assuming what must have happened is that there was an 'gap' between the end of my old contract and the beginning of the new, because the calls were made on May 1st (when it was being switched) and a definitely didn't go over my minutes. I just assumed it was double line rental because it was almost exactly double my tariff.
That's rather irritating 😕 Thanks for your help, anyway.

On the day your tariff switches over you only get one days worth of your monthly allowance for calls, text and data so it is easy to go over on your minutes.
Thanks, I just called O2 and was told the same thing. I do wish that was mentioned somewhere on the website when you switch over, otherwise I wouldn't have made those calls.
