Ending a Contract and Using the Sim in a Different Phone

Anonymous
Not applicable

I currently have a HTC One (M7) on O2 Refresh. My 24 month contract ends in a few weeks. Once it ends my bill will go down from £22 per month to £12 per month.

I would like to keep my contract rolling so I can stay on the same plan but buy a new phone elsewhere and use my current sim in it.

Is this possible if the new phone is unlocked? Could there be any problems at all in doing this?

The plan that I am on now doesn't seem to be an option when buying a new phone through O2 anymore. Plus, the last time I started a new contract with O2 you were able to decide how much of the phone you could pay off upfront so the monthly bill was set how you liked.

Yes your contract will continue to roll on a month by month basis and obviously the phone plan will have been paid off .
You can then stay on the same tariff and use the sim in any o2 or unlocked phone of your choice.
You will not have any problems doing this.

Hi @Anonymous

I did a similar thing when my contract ran out in January. My sim was in S3. I bought an unlocked Note 3 and put the sim in that ...and then a month later swapped to a sim only tariff with a new 4G sim.

Currently paying £10 a month less for this vastly superior tariff on a much better phone wink

If the phone you're buying uses the same sized sim you just need to put your current sim in the new phone, and away you go. If it uses a different size you can go into an O2 store and they will swap your number onto the correct sized sim.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2
