Early upgrade

I am currently on O2 pay monthly contract (2 years). I know about O2 refresh which allows me to upgrade whenever I want by paying off my device plan.

I want to know is it not possible to upgrade after 12 months anymore, because I upgraded 2 times before after 12 months through my account, but now it says I should either pay off my device plan or wait for my contract to ends.

All O2 contracts (with phones) are now 24 months.
The refresh option is designed to allow you to change at anytime, but you still need to pay off the device plan.
No free upgrades after 12 months anymore.

Early upgrades are limited to one month unless paying off the handset first. That's a good option, sell the phone to pay off the handset price but strictly and legally speaking the handset doesn't actually belong to you to sell until it's paid off. I'm sure O2 wouldn't be aware of it though....

Another viable option is to sell your current phone to accrue funds to buy another phone.

Their are high street shops that buy and sell phones , unwanted upgrades among them. CEX as an example.

And then remain on your current contract.
