Just noticed I have been charged for a text message to +44 7797 800042, my tariff is unlimited calls/txt, is this a premium number? Thanks.

A quick google shows that the 07797 prefix is allocated to Jersey Telecom and a lot of organisations use the prefix for a 'contact us' or 'text us' service but obviously texts to Jersey will fall outside of any free allowance.

That is the exact problem I'm afraid. It shouldn't be down to us  to Google these numbers and bank are notorious for using this type of number.

Calls and text to the Channel Islands are no longer included in UK allowances.
The question of "how to tell" was brought up at the time of announcement but O2 failed to respond with any satisfactory method for the customer to know.
As usual, it appears to be a case of "figure it out for yourself" 😞
