Change tariff when buying a tablet

I'm trying to buy a tablet and of course it comes with a monthly sim but I already have a number with o2, how can I keep my number changing the tariff to the new one that comes with buying the tablet?

You can't have two sims on the same number.

If you upgrade to a tablet, your phone will stop working.

As long as you add the tablet and don't upgrade then your number stays on the phone.
