Cancel without penalties

Can I cancel my contract early and not have to pay any charges if O2 are not fulfilling their part of the deal?
I am about 16 months into a 24 month contract for which I pay approx £60/month which includes £10 insurance. My Galaxy S3 started playing up a few weeks ago and I sent it to O2 for repair. When it came back it was still the same, keeps resetting itself, freezing, apps don't respond etc etc. O2 then said they would send a replacement phone to me within 3 working days. The next day I received a text saying no phones are available at mo and they would send one as soon as possible. That was a week ago and it's becoming increasingly frustrating as my phone will now not switch on. I don't want to be without a phone over Xmas and want to go elsewhere now.

OK, go to this page on Sammobile http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and type into the search box (where it says "search device here") i9300o2u.
You need to download the first file that comes at the top of the list.
It is a complete firmware, modem and bootloader file so will update the entire phone os (if the option in Odin is available, tick "bootloader update").
After flashing reboot the phone and skip past the start up options, shut down and do the factory reset again then start up the phone and setup the owner options. After completing these steps, leave the phone alone for 10 mins, then shut down and restart again.
Hopefully all should be good but if not you have ruled out software failure and it must be a hardware issue.

I doubt that would be sufficient grounds to cancel penalty free. You have been offered a replacement phone. As it's not in stock perhaps they can offer an alternative if you are willing to consider it?

Hi,

As jonsie has said.

We feel your frustration  Crazy   but please take a step back and calm down just a little.

Give them another call to see if anything else can be offered or contact them via e mail https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help. A loan phone could be offered a perhaps a completely different choice of handset {this is rare but has happened in the past}

You can if you wish make your complaint official here if your calls or e mail yield no results..... http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=Companion,question=ref%28User%29:str%28Mob...

Take care.

I'll help you with the phone later when I'm home.
If its a software issue we can fix it on here.

Hi thanks for the replies, I can't help getting frustrated, I bought a cheap replacement handset the day mine started going wrong but after having a good smartphone it's very hard to downgrade. I have just spoke to O2 and they said again that there are no replacements in stock but I can get a basic loan phone from them for a £25 deposit. That's a bit of an insult I think considering the amount I pay including insurance. They claim that if a phone is lost or stolen then 80% of the time a replacement is sent out the next day.
Thank you for the offer of fixing my current phone if it's a software issue, I currently can't even do a hard reset as loads of different error codes keep coming up.
Apparently it's going to cost £185 to buy up my contract, I may have to do that & go somewhere else to ensure a phone over the Xmas period .
Thanks again

Hi and you're welcome.

MI5 is definitely your man who can.

I know what you mean about using a smartphone and then having to use what's known as a 'dumb down' phone.

I'm sure O2 will supply you with a replacement as soon as one becomes available.

Look at it this way at least o2 offer a loan phone for a 'returnable' deposit.

If your adamant about moving networks via paying off the remaining part of your contract and asking for a PAC Code then please ensure your alternative network offers good stable signal where you live, work and commute.

Do this by obtaining payg sims for the ones that interest you and use them for a week or so.

If the phones your using is locked then unlock for free here https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form

Instead of paying £185 to get out of your contract have you considered phonehero? You could buy a Galaxy S3 Grade A handset for around the same price. So then you would have a almost new replacement and when o2 and you their replacement you will have a back up in case things go wrong in the future.

Tech can go wrong from time to time. If that is of interest have a look at phonehero. They are promising delivery before xmas for orders placed today. They have a good range of unlocked handsets.

Another alternative is CEX which is a highstreet shop I often visit to buy phones etc from too.

Regarding O2 fulfilling their end of the contract, I would suggest that you read your contract and see what is says about repairs/replacements.

Firstly, can you try the reset following this guide exactly please http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Android-Devices-Samsung-HTC-Sony/How-To-Reset-your-Samsung-after-a-Firm...
Come back and let me know how that goes please.
Make sure your battery is charged to at least 50% also.
