Can I switch to a cheaper SIM when I bought my phone and SIM together?

Hi,

A few months I go I have bought iPhone 6 with a SIM card that offers unlim calls + texts and 5GB data. This is slightly overkill for someone like me which is why I am wondering if there is a way to keep the phone on the contract and keep paying £25/month for it it but cancel my Pay Monthly plan and switch to a cheaper contract.

If there is a way, would I be required to pay off any extras or anything? Would I be able to keep my number? And how would I go about it?

Your only option is to pay the device plan off which means the phone is yours. You can then tell O2 to cancel the current airtime plan and take a lesser sim only deal.
You stay with O2, keep your phone and number, but pay less for the airtime.
Call CS on 202 to discuss your options and deals available to you.

Don't forget that half way through your contract term you can often qualify for stepping down 1 level of tariff which could save you £5 a month, also 1 month before the end of contract you can upgrade or in your case downgrade to cheapest tariff. Overall could be cheaper than paying off the outstanding amount.

O2 do not allow you to downgrade anymore.

You cannot do this anymore. O2 stopped giving this option when they introduced Refresh a good while ago. Paying off the phone is the only way now to choose a tariff more suitable for the individuals needs.
