I changed to a sim only contract and bought a apple iphone 12. The advisor in store said i can add the 5g bolt on once I get the phone. Now I’m being told I can’t? Can I add 5g to a sim only contract? The website suggests you can.

@JonathanB

You just need a 5g sim.

All tariffs are 5g anyway.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Thanks. I’ve got one but seem to be struggling to add on the 5g bolt on. Any ideas?

@MI5 Sorry to hijack the thread.

And I hope you don't mind me asking...?

I recently automatically went on to an O2 refresh 30 day rolling contract.

I just ordered a 5G sim for when I get the new iPhone 12 pro max.

Now I asked O2 if I have 5G on my taiff and they say no, I need to upgrade.

Is that right or will this refresh tariff have 5G by default?

Thanks in advance

No problem at all.

All O2 tariffs are 5g capable.

In order to get 5g you need:

1 - a 5g sim

2 - a 5g phone

3 - be in an area where 5g has been rolled out O2 Service Status

This is the same issue I’ve got. Haven’t been able to speak to ‘upgrades’ after 3 attempts. O2 have told me I need to add the bolt on.

@JonathanB

I can't believe some of the things customer service say these days.

They clearly haven't been trained correctly.

Have a look at O2's own help page here https://www.o2.co.uk/5G and you'll not find any mention of this mythical 5g bolt on.
