i have an o2 contract currently, i am looking to buy a phone for my daughter. When i add to basket , it says i am upgrading. how do i get 2 seperate phones on 1 account?

Don't use Live chat. They aren't the best at dealing with account issues. Call on the numbers I gave in the link above. Or go instore (where you will make sure they have the phone you want in stock) @Harv1
