recently had 10 data charges on a trip to france with data roaming off. phone always used on wifi, never had this before and phone used the same way on previous visits.can anyone explain why, o2 said possibly gprs, but as i said never happened before. only thing different is i had the travel bolt on removed, thats the only thing different from last year. using iphone 5

phone was never switched off. when i checked my bill it gives me the times of when i used this data, all i can say is it's a good job i cancelled the travel bolt on, otherwise it would have cost me £20. i cannot understand why this has happened just now and never before, just seems strange that it occurs since o2 travel started and i cancelled it.

If mobile data wasn't switched off and the wifi signal was weak it may have triggered the wifi assist. Have you checked the settings?
