Had a call from this number claiming to be o2 went down n with his sale of a new tablet on contract with o2 which I was all up for doing. He then couldn’t change my flat number on the system and asked if that was a big issue for me? I went along with it and said no then he asked me to put my card details into the phone as this would confirm I was the account holder. Needless to say the call was politely terminated and number blocked. Shame really as the tablet deal he was offering sounded really good lol

@Paulj895 You can report it here: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

You did the right thing in terminating the call. Never agree to anything from a cold caller. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it most surely is.

Not bad for a number NO ONE has except o2, and my marketing preferences are set correctly..

Maybe someone can tell me how a 3rd party has my number, my account info and my personal details yet o2 settings set to o2 NOT sharing my info with trusted (by no-one) partners?

I'll be very interested to hear.

Hells teeth @viridis they were very persistent!!

Apart from them having your details, which they most certainly should NOT have...they have no consideration for the fact people are actually at work and probably in an environment where calls on personal mobiles are NOT allowed unless you are on an official break....

Unfortunately this is all too common.

Even though as you say only O2 has your number for marketing believe me there are many organisations that have your number and this is how and why.

When you complete a form online and enter your phone number, which many do in all innocence, as many sites won't process orders, registrations etc without it the company concerned will then sell your information including your telephone number!.

It is only marketing organisations or organisations that want to sell you PPI reclaim, injury compensation, or a micky tablet etc that buy this information.

The simple way around this is do not give your number to anyone outside of your family and freinds or trusted circles.

If you are asked for your number in an online form and you have to give it to continue simply enter the first 5 digits of the code EG 07806 etc and then 6 zeros. The form is looking for a string length not specific digits. This way no one gets your number unless YOU want them to have it.

I have been doing this for a number of years and never get any marketing calls on my mobile.

@jezza1234Everything you say is correct. However O2 already have our number so that's the first problem. Secondly in your My O2, (contact preferences) you have the option to OPT OUT of all marketing calls. We have all done this and are still getting calls from companies who have acquired our number from O2 by fair means or foul....

There is a very very good reason NO ONE but o2 has this number.
It's one of those things where it's very easy to prove this company could ONLY have got this information from o2.
