My wife has not used her phone for months and all has gone dead has her number been deleted?

@ian2 if you call customer services they may be able to reactivate it if not too long http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus 

You should also remove number from the public forum, this isn't O2.

It may well have been. To keep a number active you have to make a chargeable call or text once every 6 months and top up evey 999 days
