I got Sony Xperia x compact. I move in to Germany Munich five months ago and trying to unlock my phone since then. After i paid £15 on 03/04/2018 for unlock I got code that did not work. I email back for help about the issue again and again and instead I got automatic massage with same code 3 times. After that I spoke with guru online and he explained that my device is already unlocked but to finish unlock I need to use UK sim card and than enter the code because it won't work witch sim cards out side UK (Funny thing because my friends have unlock they devices a year ago same way I was doing it, thay use German o2 sim to unlock UK o2 phone). I have ordered giffgaf sim and activate it for £5 because giffgaf is only sim that can be ordered to send abroad. And surprise! it did not work because giffgaf is operating on o2 phones. Now when I log in to my o2 app in unlock menu "your phone is being unlocked enter code" is no longer visible. Instead it says you need 15£ balance to unlock it.. Again! And many other suggestions from one guru after another that is worth a s..t. Like reset my phone to factory settings and try again (witch I did and it didn't work) and that "I have placed a request to escalate your query. You will get an confirmation email within 7 days. And a new code" 14 days have passed and no email. I spoke with another guru and he send my unlocking request to manufacturer. It passed three months and I was wondering is there any progress with this nightmare. Cuz I am using my old phone that have broken battery. And am still waiting for a miracle that will prevent me from smashing this phone to peaces! :-< both of this phones.. So I decided to solve it my self. I have recently visited 2 major specialist that said same thing. That Sony Ericsson have close counter and it is Permanently locked to this network! And only Sony can unlock it for 50€. This is how system test looks: Sim Card IMSI: [x] Network 0 [ ] Network Subset 0 [ ] Service provider 0 [ ] Corporate 0 [ ] Sim 0. My issue have been totally ignored... This service is a joke. I strongly suggest to everyone to not buy phones in o2 stores. Specially Sony Ericsson!

You’ll never get this unlocked now unless you pay Sony.
The code you were given was either wrong or entered wrong.
It doesn’t matter where you are or what sim you use to unlock as it’s controlled by the phone and nothing to do with which network you’re connected to.
Either pay Sony or bin it as it’s useless in it’s current state.

@BuggedOtwo

You won't be able to unlock your phone once you are abroad. You need to be in the UK so your phone can pick up the O2 network/sim.

You best bet is to take it into a shop abroad (or market stall) which unlocks any phones and get them to do it

Best of luck.

Edited to add the guide for unlocking whilst in the UK. All phones are now free to unlock

@BuggedOtwoI notice the title of the thread includes the words 'Sony Scam'.

It isn't a scam by sony or O2. It's the way the unlocking process works. Its the same on any UK network whatever phone you are using...

However if you want to make a complain about this as you say you first tried to unlock in April, then follow the information in this link https://www.o2.co.uk/how-to-complain

However to get it unlocked now, please follow the advice in my first post

Thank you MI5 for clearing that up. That is exact same thing that specialists have told me.
And I am sure my code entry was 100% accurate, I am always precise with that.

And i am very happy that all is so helpful whit giving links and guides to solve this drama.You can now give me a guide how to make o2 refund my money since they faild to do EVERYTHING except making my last half of year miserable...

@BuggedOtwoYou can make a complaint as I mentioned above. Probably better to use Resolver in the complaint link. https://www.o2.co.uk/how-to-complain
