If I put an 02 Data Big Bundle SIM at 7GB per month for a mobile phone in an 02 mobile broadband dongle would I get 7GB per month on my laptop, like as if it were for mobile broadband? Would it work?
Would I be able to activate the SIM card in the dongle and would I be able to keep it in the dongle all the time, and just top it up with an 02 voucher now and again?
I currently use '3' mobile broadband dongle and top up £10 a month for 1GB, but if I put the O2 SIM in a Unlocked dongle would I get the 7GB per month instead? Is there a catch?
😀

O.K I'm begining to go off the idea!
I'll stick with my dongle SIM and just hope one day we get a bit more data like what smartphone users get!

Hi MI5,
I've rang 02 Customer Services and they say I can use an ordinary mobile phone SIM card with data and use it in a dongle. It is now possible to do this, so mobile phone SIM card users can use their SIMs in other devices. But whether this is fair on the regular mobile broadband dongle user who wants to carry on using their mobile broadband SIM and are getting less data is another matter.

Let us knw how long you get before the system cuts you off.

Hi well I tried it in an unlocked 4G dongle. I had to activate it on a phone but it worked in the dongle although after unplugging the dongle and plugging it back in it stopped working! So it was all a bit make shift!
O2 told me I still get the full 7GB per month but there was no obvious way to top up on the same way you do with mobile broadband SIMs and no obvious way of checking how much I was using so I wouldn't recommend it.
I couldn't do a speed test either which was unusual. It said I was on a 'restricted internet connection' and wouldn't let me!
So keep with mobile broadband SIMs even though you don't get as many gigabytes. We will get the same gigabytes as mobile phone users in the end - we just need to win through!

@Anonymous Hi, you can top up the dongle SIM by registering the number online at MYO2, the amount or plan will be applied to the SIM number.

It's not a dongle SIM though, it's a mobile phone SIM.

The SIM can be topped up and the PAYG bundle applied to it from - MYO2 - It will be applied to the SIM and number associated with it.

I did tell you it wouldn't work but thanks for proving it to yourself.

The thing is though you can tether (Via WiFi) with a phone and a device and access the internet that way, the phone is effectively a router so what is the difference? Inspection of the TTL will show you are using a proxy in both cases, but in the end you are only using the same amount of data anyway.

Tethering stops at 4gb too. Or at least it did last time I checked.
