O2 mobile phone SIMs in dongles

Anonymous
Not applicable

If I put an 02 Data Big Bundle SIM at 7GB per month for a mobile phone in an 02 mobile broadband dongle  would I get 7GB per month on my laptop, like as if it were for mobile broadband? Would it work?

Would I be able to activate the SIM card in the dongle and would I be able to keep it in the dongle all the time, and just top it up with an 02 voucher now and again?

I currently use '3' mobile broadband dongle and top up £10 a month for 1GB, but if I put the O2 SIM in a Unlocked dongle would I get the 7GB per month instead? Is there a catch?

😀

Yes your data will move over as its linked to the sim card.

So the device is irrelevant, all I would do is check your dongle is unlocked and you will need to take the sim out to top up by voucher, much easier to just top up online

If I link the SIM card with a e top up card and top up £10 say with the top up card, will the credit appear on the dongle the next time I plug it into my laptop?

o2 don't do e-top up cards anymore, unless you have one from a couple of years ago.

You can't use a phone sim in a dongle, if you do, o2 will cut you off.

You must use a data only sim in a dongle.

Hi, I'm getting conflicting advice as to whether an ordinary SIM with data can be used in a dongle - some say you can, some say you can't!

Apparently the EU changed the law so mobile phone SIM's can be used in tablets and dongles.

What isn't fair is that you get more data this way then you do with a dongle only SIM. That's why I'm trying it to give it a go! But if it doesn't work I'll let you know.

If 02, 3, Vodaphone etc gave their mobile broadband dongle users more data for £10 a month as they seem to do now with smartphone users (7GB for £10 a month with 02) then that would be BRILLIANT as Windows 10 uses a lot of data, but unfortunately it hasn't happened yet.

Something for mobile broadband companies to consider there.

I've not heard about that! Are you sure?

How do 02 mobile phone users top up then without swipe cards?

It used to be possible to get them from the newsagents but last few years you need to go to an 02 store. I went to mine at Lincoln. ( 20 mile drive just for a top up card!)

How do you top up without one then?

Certainly not with O2.

Hi, why have you sent me a guide how to top up? I know how to top up.

You need to show it to Madasaf1sh further up the link as he/she seems to think e-top up cards are no longer available, when they are.  The guide you sent me says so!
