@Ktmrose

You need to call 4445 and ask customer service to turn them off.

I called 4445 and was told that O2 can't turn PAYG balance notifications off.

I used the SIM help option to get to talk to a person instead of the Incredibly Unhelpful Robot who doesn't understand the term  "Balance Notification". I left Virgin Mobile because they persisted in being unable to understand the concept of Abandonned Call Notifications, which works well on O2, but which Virgin Media decline to imitate. I am disappointed that O2 use the same stone-walling-don't-understand tactic on the matter of Balance Notifications.

The O2 person also seem confused about what I meant by Balance Notification.  I said "the one the community that people have complained about for years and the replies say phone 4445 to get them turned off". She seemed confused about whether I meant text message notifications about my balance, and the term "popup" didn't help. She was consistent in stating they they couldn't turn either off, and argued that the notifications were necessary for me.

So, to be clear, I mean popups that require you to hit OK before you can make another phone call, or continue to write the second part of a text message e.g

Balance Notification after phone call Balance Notifications while texting

Keep trying until you get someone trained and who knows what they are doing.

Thanks @MI5. Applying patience to the problem worked. 4445 Linolia (perhaps that was her name) fixed it straight away and signed my up for rewards too.

Is Sunday morning typically a good time for 4445?

I'm so pleased that I don't get unprompted balance notifications popping up, but I no longer get a text message in response to 20202:BALANCE.  Is this expected, or has something else gone wrong? The text message was the only place I could find my "offer allowance" - the 12GB extra for the first 3 months.
