Text from 88440

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I got a text from a shortcode which is 88440. I looked about online but couldn't find much info regarding it. The text read the following:

Rylee, Thanks for confirming your order. To receive your FREE O2 SIM in the post, please click the following link:

<link removed>

Thanks

Is this a legitimate link from O2 as I don't remember signing up for anything, especially with me being a Vodafone employee! I didn't want to click the link in case it was part of a phishing scam perhaps. I tried to text STOP but it said it's a chargeable service.

If this is a valid O2 link, is there a way I can stop it free of charge?

Thank you

It's just a confirmation of an online order for a free sim card.
Most likely someone who ordered it entered their number wrong.
However, to be sure, just report it as per the advice here https://www.o2.co.uk/help/safety-and-security/fraud-and-phishing-advice and then delete it.
