O2 seem happy with the process as they take the money straight away, bank it, gain interest for 10 days until they decide to return it if you get frustrated enough to cancel. Win, win!

If you want to be committed for a full 2 year contract with no option of ending other than paying off the remaining months then yes, some people want to have a choice of changing contract or provider when they want or need to.
