Phone a mobile abroad

Wondered if someone could give me some advice please. My father lives in France and has been taken into hospital. What could i do to make calls cheaper from my mobile to his please ? He would be with a French provider. Many thanks, Pezza.

@Devonian62 Best thing for you both to do is download WhatsApp. If you call using WiFi it's free. You can text and video call over WiFi for free as well.

Calling from UK to France will incur international rates, @Devonian62 - but if your father's phone and yours are both capable of running WhatsApp and your father has a good data or WiFi signal in the hospital, both of you can talk for free using WhatsApp.

Thank you all so much for taking time to reply. My father  ( aged 84 ) making good recovery after major surgery. I have put a bolt on onto my phone. Did not know where to look or realise it was so simple. Your kindness much appreciated.
