I know O2 have rolled out HSPA+ in major cities but my handset (Blackberry 9810) doesn't seem to get an H+ signal even though the device is compatible with this service. My daughter has just got a Blackberry Z10 and that picks up an H+ signal in my area. The best I can get is 3G. Because the Z10 takes a micro sim she got a new sim card with the phone so I'm wondering if I need a new sim card to be able to get HSPA+. My sim card was issued in November 2010. Your views would be most appreciated.

Your sim card will start with 894411006

Can you tell us what the next number is after that, 3, 4 or 5?

That should be able to support it then. If you're positive the phone also supports it then it seems like one of them might be at fault.

You could always try swapping the sim just to be on the safe side? An o2 store can give you a new one for free.

But remember, O2 can't guarantee signal in doors so you may just not be able to pick it up on your phone.

It also possible that the phone is not capable of displaying anything other than "H", but this doesn't mean that your speed will be any slower......

I don't know as much about blackberries as I'd like but I always thought that 9810 could show it. But maybe not.

I'm on my mobile in a crap 3g area so can't really look into it but this url might help OP

Have you done a side by side with your daughter's phone? Your phone might not display the H+ but it might be connecting at that speed?

Thanks for the replies. The BB 9810 can display the following:

3G, 4G (not true 4G), H+, EDGE, GPRS, GSM.

Good to hear that my sim should be OK for HSPA+. Would the fact that I got the phone from the Carphone Warehouse, which I believe makes the handset not locked to any particular network, make any difference?

No, it shouldn't make any difference the the signal display. Is it just at home you don't get H+ or anywhere ?

At the moment I'm working in the Westminster area of London and am getting full bars signal but at 3G. My daughter gets H+ in my house in east London but from what I have seen so far this drops to 3G most of the time. I don't think I have ever seen H+ displayed on my 9810. Not getting H+ is not a deal breaker for me, but I'm curious why I don't get it when the 9810 is supposed to support it.
