OK here is my issue, its not phone related as I have tested this on an iPhone, Lumia 620 and Nexus 4
I live in a strong H+ area 900Mhz, Now half the times my phones see this as E, and when its on E data does not work at all, I am currently using a Lumia and in order to get it to connect to H+ is a real pain in the rear, it involves restarting the phone several times, turning data on and off in the hope it see's H+
On my Nexus 4 it was easy as I had an option to select 3G only so it was always 3G, on the iPhone I also had to mess about and hope it would connect.
It wouldn't be so bad if E actually let me do something but it simply does not connect, no emails etc can be received.
Has anyone else had this issue?

Good evening NoelC,
Its just not good when you have to take a backwards step in order to have something so basic !
However its good to hear you found a workaround.

@NoelC That would have been my option too, I did try a few searches for O2's 4181 being the last official update with the 2G option (though no 4G) - thought it should have been on my PC but couldn't locate it.
At least yours seems later than the 4200 release
I'll keep an eye on future updates and post if the 2G option returns.

I'm having to maintain my Orange contract as o2 doesn't cut it anywhere except population centres and big ones at that. A 2g rollout would be nice, 3g a distant dream. Tugo on Windows phones, which some of their Gurus think is available, would be a start. Its explained at length elsewhere but I have a phone that is a great for putting my coffee on but its costing me £27pm to do it.

I know it's been a few months since I commented on this but I did find a solution. I left O2, and after a lengthy debate ended up paying them the outstanding amount owed on the handset and they waived the final year's line rental and terminated the contract. Oddly enough they said they'd checked the transmitter, they thought there was a fault but couldn't fix it. Bizarre.
Sadly I damaged the sim tray on the Z10 so bought a new unlocked Z30, and have a sim only deal with Virgin (Orange, T-Mobile and EE network). I did all the updates on the Z30 and hey presto, have 2G, 3G, 3G&2G, 4G&3G&2G, 4G&3G and 4G options in network mode!
This makes me think despite their denials this was down to O2 all along. Software release on the Z30 is showing 10.2.1.537.

Thanks for the feedback Noelc!
I think we all know that O2 are the ones to blame here as we lost the 2G option after a carrier update from them. Its also widely documented on Crackberry.com about how some carriers have removed the 2G only option.
I'll be leaving O2 as soon as I can, and the removal of this option is a large part of my decision.
Hows the Z30? It looks an amazing phone...

I've been pleased with the Z30 so far. I've had no niggly issues with it like I did the Z10 (perhaps just due to BB10 now being that much further on) and the battery life is about twice that of the Z10. It seems faster and more responsive plus the larger screen helps the fat fingered! On wifi I stream from BBC iPlayer and the sound seems a lot better with the Z30.
All in all I've got to say I can't really fault the Z30 - I'd love to go back to the battery life I enjoyed in the mid-90s when a Nokia Orange with extended battery would do 10 days or more without a charge but I guess it did a fair bit less. 🙂
