Always substance, without doubt. Having said that, I can't deny I'm a touch vain too. Only a bit, not in an annoying or disturbing way - if you could see the state of my hair right now (appointment with the hairdresser heavily overdue) you'd agree

Hi there @Anonymous It certainly seems that in the modern world image is everything - and TV and the visual media have an incredible influence on all our live whether we beleive it or not. And image without substance is the foundation on which fashion is founded. But when shove come to push in the important areas of life unless you have substance you have nothing. Unless your brand new shiny mobile/tablet/laptop or whatever actually works reliably it does not matter how it is packaged. Though having said that I did once buy a car simply because I liked the rather upmarket upholstery (well I never did understand anything under the bonnet anyway).

Oh, gosh, no way! It's bad enough going around with it, I'm not sharing it on the interweb!*
* I did say that I'm vain.

Ah @Anonymous - you disappoint me.
Don't know what that has to do with anything - but I thought it was funny.

I would have to say substance, though I am also a fan of style and image. Not stupid styles and trends though.
I like individual styles and admire people who have the courage (or brass neck) to stand out in a crowd, confident that their image suits them.
In my 'youth' I liked to set my own trends and style, purely because 75% of my life was spent conforming to
a strict dress code in my nursing uniform
Off duty was the time to change all that....and I did it with a vengeance

By the time one stands back and takes a breath thinking why am I bothered about how someone percieves me on sight, ones life could be close to over.
Happy days.

Life's too short IMO to be guided by either.

I have no intention of being 'bothered' about how anyone perceives me on sight. Its how I perceive myself that is the issue.
I think Wispa was just asking which of those we would choose...
