I came across “cheese rolling” which is an annual event in Gloucester which involves chasing a 3kg wheel of cheese down a very steep hill. The winner of the event is the person who reaches the bottom of the hill first and get hold of the cheese wheel. The speed people fly down the hill is insane and there are serious injuries every year.

I think H&S are now doing their best to deprive us of these 'sports' which are great fun but the need to protect ourselves and others from serious injury has taken a lot of fun from annual traditions. Mind you, sometimes there is nothing better for them to do on weekends and bank holidays than to stop us enjoying the miseries of others. Spoilsport

Health and Safety have tried on many occasions to stop the Atherstone Ball Game I posted about earlier. They have had no success. It is brutal.... but good fun (according to those mad folk who take part) . One of my colleagues likened it to the Bull Running in Pamplona (without the bull...just the ball)
