Seriously, this was a notorious place. Proper name was Bethlem and built in the design of a palace.
50% of it's inhabitants weren't mad at all. People went there to avoid the workhouses...Sadly they were all treated the same.

Reminds me of the old Bootham Park hospital in York ... once went for a job there, I would have really liked it, but I then had no audio typing qualifications or experience
The huge building and once beautiful gardens in front of it were closed down in 2017
It was built as a lunatic asylum in the late 18th century ... and became a hospital later on
