Today is officially the first day of Winter. Daylight in the UK today will last just seven hours, 49 minutes and 41 seconds. On the plus side, after today the days start getting longer again. Happy Winter everyone!:smileyhappy:

I always turn my mattress with the seasons, and I thought it was 1st December 2016  Thoughful

I was going by the meteorological seasons though, as explained in this article by the Met Office:

Well to me winter is when it's cold and summer when it is hot....anything inbetween is spring and autumn though it's quite difficult with the British weather, Indian summers and early frost!. God I quite miss that...

Sorry guys but I love winter as long as it doesn't snow. Lovely to look at but if like me walking is difficult means you don't get out. It rarely snows in London, of course. And when it does you know it's a bad winter. So happy winter to me.

Well I hate it @Glory1. I think I invented SADS disorder. Fear. Anyway I shall be clearing off back to Spain in February. ( unless Ryanair chooses to divert via Timbuktu) but that's a whole different story LOL

You are not alone @Cleoriff there are many many like you. I am the one who is a bit odd in liking winter - all my friends tell me so😄 But having a serious heart condition means hot humid days makes me ill so not a fan of summer. Spring and autumn are fine but cold weather for me is best.

And I like the long nights as well. Have always been a night person rather than day even as a child. I come alive when it gets dark. I know I'm weird. Again, my friends tell me so😂

Happy Winter to you @Bambino & All ... it has been very foggy here, grey & cold, so I simply don't go out, the wind is up & rattling the back plate of the gas fire in the living room ... I'm a Spring & Autumn person so am happy to know the days are getting longer & lighter from today slight_smile

Similar weather here in London @Anonymous though I think the fog lifted during the morning. Not had much sunshine the last few days. Will do some shopping with my god-daughter tomorrow - final bits and pieces for Christmas - then we are in until after Boxing Day.

All my god-daughter's family have now arrived: children and grandchildren and her hubby. So it's hectic, noisy and loads of fun. Haven't laughed so much in ages. So you see the weather doesn't bother us, too much going on indoors😊🍷🍸🍹🍻🍬🍕🍿🎄

Winter here is June when temperatures drop as low as 26, then we have the rainy season in September.Temperatures never drop below 28 during the day, only late at night when they can go as low as 22.
