It's that time of year again....Some love it and others hate it....

However, BBC have announced the first 'celebrity' to join the line up for Strictly Come Dancing 2017.

It's Mollie King from the girl band The Saturdays (Frankie Bridge from the same group appeared in 2014)

To be honest @jonsie I do start watching ....then get so sick of all the millions of mistakes in the procedures. It's like Casualty. Never known so many junior nurses setting themselves up as social workers and visiting patients in their own homes without a word to anyone!!. They would be struck off for that. The major disaster parts are pretty true to life but then you have staff doing stuff well outside their remit. Apparently both these programmes are advised by medical specialists. Yeah right....

I watched one episode of Casualty when a care assistant was worried about someone who had been discharged ...took herself off to the 'patients home'...couldn't get a response, so threw a brick through the window and climbed in. Needless to say she saved the patient. Was hailed a hero instead of being hauled in front of the Senior nurse manager and disciplined. It's a fantasy...

I have the same problem watching the soaps, yes I know, how sad am I but not much else to do under my present circumstances! But being a motor mechanic and having owned a chip shop, I laugh at the garages and kebab/chip shops in Eastenders and Corry. 

Some of the practices and jargon leave me shaking my head

I do watch Corrie and Emmerdale. Hate Eastenders....However....what I dislike most is the amount of people they manage to squeeze into these two bedroomed terraced houses.

Oh and Ray says, 'these soaps need new police. None of them can solve a crime'....

In my previous life I was asked to advise the Casualty "technical" team on how to re-enact a road incident involving chemical drums. They didn't appreciate my advice because "but that wouldn't make good televison for the viewers".

The scenes they subsequently filmed and broadcast contained so many basic errors that it looked almost comedic and disregarded most of the recognised major incident procedures.

The problem is that everything is done for effect and shock factor and most of the average public lap it up as true to life. They can't do that on Strictly..... bringing this back on topic

I think I remember that one @Beenherebefore (I tend to watch the major incident episodes) However, I would have no knowledge of chemical drum explosions. I tend to watch the TV major incident medical staff and how they react. I've been involved in three M.D.callouts (Train crash, pit explosion and plane crash) I know routines have changed but the main premise of saving lives hasn't. I agree though, sometimes it's farcical. We weren't allowed anywhere near the train until it had finished smashing into the station and came to a halt. The pit explosion was handled initially by the colliery emergency team.....and the plane crash happened in Coventry and was a cargo plane. It smashed into a pylon in the fog and we had to wait till the national grid turned off the power....(my other half, who worked for the Grid... was more involved in that than I was)...

Anyway I digress....the guy from Holby who has been picked for SCD,  will never have been near a major disaster in his life...so I hope he can dance

Well so far we've had seversl soap 'stars' (none of which shows I watch) a clergyman and former singer, another singer and a TV presenter. I really hope one of them can dance 😄

I hope another Hollyoaks actor will join Strictly as I do watch this show and those that have been on - Danny Mac being one example - can dance.

However, I will admit that even though I watch Hollyoaks and Doctors (when its on) and now Red Rock (Irish police drama) on BBC1, unlike many other viewers I don't have any illusions they're true to life. I've only ever worked in an office and as a cashier in a supermarket so know nothing about medical procedures, running a garage or a chip shop. Though have had several ex-boyfriends who were police detectives But I do know what makes sense and what doesn't. I watch them as enjoyable fiction and nothing more.
