A spectacular event is occuring on Friday 20th March 2015
The UK will experience a near-total solar eclipse which is due to block out the light of the sun in Britain, leaving parts of the UK shrouded in 99% darkness on Friday.
Although total eclipses can be seen somewhere on Earth every year or so, they are rarely seen in Europe. The eclipse this week, will be the first in Britain in this century.
It will start approximately 8am on Friday morning.....

The partial eclipse has also had an effect on world news......it's quite apparent on BBC News and Sky News channels.
I also noticed that BBC News was displaying the scientific technical explanation for the eclipse on their news scroller :
"A solar eclipse occurs when the moon gets in the way of the sun"
RIP Patrick Moore !!
Edit : BBC have now changed their description "in the way" is now "between the sun and the earth"
