I agree it could be exciting for the future @Anonymous,

Sadly we were consumed with the idea it could be now

From the all aspects of the media, TV programes, Radio, Street parties , pubs and clubs. It was in our minds whether we wanted it there or not.

I have watched all cup finals...and well before the glorious 1966 win. All with the same hype and disappointment.

What makes me really mad with this one, is that we could and should have won.

The chances we missed in the first half were abysmal. Croatia only turned up to the party in the 2nd half and boy did they give us a lesson I hope we never forget.

I suppose it's hard coming down from the excitement of it all Smiley Indifferent

Good tweet. Says it all.

Piers Morgan was in fine form this morning. Not really keen on him, though he was of the same mind as me.

Every pundit they had on the show, who kept coming out with the usual banal comments.. ie they did us proud, they should hold their heads up high' ...

He replied with 'NO they didn't do us proud., They lost....they should hang their heads in shame'.

Those comments at least made me smile joy

When it comes to football, Piers Morgan is a....well, add your own descriptive expletive. Yes they lost and could have done better but would they been the same under any other manager? I think not. Hence they have restored pride to English International football so should be applauded for that rather than being torn apart by the media who were expecting it on a plate. Unsurpringly, since he's an Arsenal fan, he's now having a go at the number of Spurs players in the England team

BTW did anyone notice Ian Wright's shirt and can we start a petition to get him a fashion stylist or even better, banned from appearing on any football show?

Also, has anyone noticed the way the female football pundits have been discarded from BBC & ITV once the quarters started? To be honest, they've been far better than most of the ex-pro's from big clubs.

I’ve often thought that the issue of the gender pay gap, was perhaps not as straightforward as it’s often portrayed in the media. For example, it could be argued that Gary Lineker deserves a higher salary, simply because “Match of the Day” attracts enough viewers to justify that expenditure. But I’m shocked to discover that both he and Chris Evans earned over a million pounds more than anyone else on this list:

And if you’ve ever wondered whether your license fee money is being spent wisely, have a look where Alan Shearer is on that list. I’m always interested in listening to the views of retired sportsmen, but it seems a lot of money to pay someone, who doesn’t actually present a show, but just shares his professional opinion.

It’s nice work if you can get it  wink

Re Alan Shearer. He earns twice as much as Dan Walker who is a sports presenter on BBC. Dan often hosts other matches and reports 3 times a week on BBC talking about all different sports.

Dan is knowledgeable on all sports and Shearer just knows about football....so a massive difference in pay due to 'celebrity'

I can almost understand why the BBC are prepared to break the bank to retain the services of Gary Lineker, because he is arguably the best presenter, and I think he’d easily land a similar contract with one of their rivals (like Sky, or BT Sport). But when there are so many talented presenters who are available at a fraction of the price, I don’t think that sort of money can ever be justified.

It’s estimated that there’s less than a thousand English supporters in Saint Petersburg for today’s game. The BBC are trying their best to generate some interest, as it would be England’s most successful campaign on foreign soil (i.e. if they beat Belgium), but no one seems to be buying it  neutral

It doesn’t help that Djokovic and Nadal are resuming their delayed semi-final today, and it’s not clear whether they’ll play before or after the women’s final. But either way, the likelihood is that coverage of Wimbledon will overlap the football.

That's a shame @Anonymous (for all their fine talk of England did us proud). It appears the 'pride' didn't extend to them getting 3rd or 4th place.

I expect it's the same for all the 'celebs' who spoke about flying out to see Sundays match. Lewis Hamilton from F1 said he had a ticket for the final. Not sure whether he will bother to use it now....:smileysad:

Edited to add....he just might change it to Saturday ...as he was at school with Ashley Young...wink

This is a nice article, explaining why we should be tuning in to watch the football:
