Tesco to launch own-brand smartphone this year.

"Tesco is to launch its first own-brand smartphone by the end of the year."

"The BBC understands the phone will run Google's Android software, and the specification will be comparable to the Samsung Galaxy S5,"

Hopefully some much wanted injection of tech into this industry

Exciting times.

Saw this earlier this morning. I suspect Tesco will seek to price this at a similar level to the Nexus 5 at around £299 to drive sales into their network.

Tesco are becoming quite a serious player in mobiles with competitive offers. Could we see a day where o2 just provides the network and third party mvno operators do the final bit to the consumers? A lot less hassle and easier profits perhaps?

I'd be interested to know exactly what the pre-installed with Tesco services actually consists of besides the shopping app.

That's more than enough to be going on with @Anonymous Smiley Very Happy

The question now is, would all this be too detrimental to the 'user experience'?

I guess in reality it would be no more than the level of totally unnecessary (and non removable) bloatware that Samsung install on their devices? I would like to remove half of what Samsung FORCE upon me with my S4 and which, in all honesty, is likely to result in me changing to a different handset brand next time round.

(I know they all do it but I think Samsung more than most)
