And so they should face a backlash. I, as a customer, am extremely angry at the length of time it took

Ebay to inform us of the problem.

Their response was 'we needed to collect all the data to make informed judgement'

Sorry that doesn't wash with me. An urgent email to all their customers two months ago would have had me

changing my password immediately. I am not interested in the 'results after they have collected all their data'

Agreed Cleoriff. If this happened in February / March why are we only just hearing about it? I can't help thinking that if news hadn't leaked we wouldn't have been told. I have a low opinion of Ebay anyway and this just reinforces it.

This can only be described as a *@*"$%*,/ disgrace. EBay and others have NO RIGHT to our data and have a responsibility when they choose to keep it to look after it.

If people have their identity stolen for example will EBay reimburse? They are the negligent ones.

@Cleoriff and @Anonymous , the likely reason you didn't find out about the problem two months ago is because they didn't know about the unauthorised access until 2 weeks ago. They would then needed to have determined what information had been taken, if any.

The accounts used to access the data were authorised user accounts which the hackers had got a hold of. this then means that its very difficult to determine what is unauthorised access and what isn't. It will have involved going through line upon line of log files so they could issue an informed press release. If it had been an external hack of systems they would have known about it sooner and could have advised sooner.

I'm not condoning how long it took, just explaining a possible reason why.
