Interview Questions

Apparently these are the most common interview questions:

Tell me about yourself.

Why did you leave your last job?

What has been your biggest achievement in your career?

What would you say is your greatest weakness?

Why do you want to work in our company?

Have you asked or been asked any other questions? Any completely random questions?

I was once asked: if I was on a desert island and I was allowed 3 people with me (dead or alive), who would I bring with me.

I don't remember many interviews, my strategy was to take control and tell them what they wanted to hear, but not necessarily at the time they wanted to hear it! slight_smile

Worked for me.

@Cleoriff your questions were shocking and degrading, I do hope it wouldn't happen today.

Agree Perksie.

Later on in my career I was responsible for interviewing many nursing and medical personnel and I often hid a smile, wondering what would they think NOW... if I was ever to pop that type of question to them?..

Its not as if my employer was unknown....It was the NHS after all!

However in the late 60's when medical consultants were revered as 'God like Beings' (Pffftttt!)....I suppose he failed to see he was saying anything out of order!

Horrified

In my last job, I was asked how many games I have on my Steam list and how many hours a day I spend faffing about online (youtube, funny pictures, etc).

To this day I don't know if my answers were good or bad.

WTF?! I hope that was for some sort of online role/job?

If I was asked that at an interview I'd probably laugh at them as theres no need for anyone to know how many games I have on Steam!

Indeed it was! It was for a gaming company so naturally they were interested in it. Don't worry, plenty of technical questions to go with the odd ones.

I was once asked about my iTunes library and what iPod I had - completely irrelevant to the job I was applying to.

I would fail that part because I only have iTunes more out of necessity and I would never own an iPod.

Trick question - they want to know if its a suitable gift to buy someone for Christmas i.e. if it breaks, guess who they'll find to sort it out!

Either way, talk about vinyl and how better the sound is on analogue compared to the stripping of frequencies with mp3's which lose their "warmth". They either respond or realise they're out of their league. Actually, talk about 8 trac and see how quickly they change the subject or usher you out of the door Confused

Bah, I was asked if I have children not a long time ago - less than a year ago. Things are still messed up.

Many times I've been asked about the games I play and my favourite games but it's absolutely normal since I worked in videogames.

The trickiest question I was ever asked was how much a tweet from a celebrity endorsing a product is worth - like that, without me seeing any data whatsoever. The trickiest I've asked is probably what would you do if you saw a forum post hinting to suicide. Eh, I need to know if somebody is quick and ready to face any crisis Weird
