Brilliant @TallTrees
My first car was a Mini. A right rust bucket which my Dad found for me. It was so bad that he had to get the seller to buy it back, which he did. With cash back and a bit more, my next car was also a Mini. It was immaculate and looked like it had just come of the production line. Unfortunately it was written off when an idiot ran into the back of it and pushed it into a ditch.

What a fantastic story @Mi-Amigo
Yes minis could be a rust ball.
You must have been devastated to lose the mini. They were so endearing those minis.
The keys were useless fitted nearly every mini 😅😑
I know because I rocked up to a mini opened the door got in prepared to drive off when noticed an umbrella that wasn't mine.. got out not my car either 🫣
Quickly closed locked door.. seemed unnecessary 😕 looked around 2 cars up my mini same colour same street.. phew!

Funny to think I was born in Coventry, the Motor City of the UK.
Most families had a member who worked in a car factory
Cov was home to major manufacturers like Jaguar, Daimler, Armstrong Siddeley, Hillman, and Triumph, producing iconic cars like the Jaguar E-Type and Triumph TR6, though mass production declined, leaving modern production focused on R&D and niche vehicles like the London Taxi (LEVC).
Historical Manufacturers & Iconic Cars:
Daimler: Made the first car in Coventry in 1897 and built luxury vehicles.
Jaguar: Evolved from SS Cars, producing famous models like the E-Type and XKSS.
Armstrong Siddeley: A significant manufacturer in the early 20th century.
Alvis: Known for adventurous and admired sports cars.
Hillman & Rootes Group: Major producers of popular cars like the Hillman.
Triumph: Famous for models like the Herald and TR6.
Singer and Standard
My dad worked at Triumph. My husband at Jaguar. Never a shortage of work in those days.

@pgn Our work parts van was an Imp Van which superseded a Hillman Minx Van
Yes it was a Rootes dealership....
The reverse gear gave out on the Imp my dad drove, saved by the car's tight turning circle - about 30 feet, which was the distance from our front doorstep to the breakwater and the water's edge in front of the house. This was hampered only if there was a boat up on the dry being painted or similar, or if a fishing boat was in offloading or fueling at the breakwater directly in front of the house. The boat thing would mean I was called to give the Imp a push back so it could be maneuvered pointing the right way to drive off in the morning.

Plenty of tales @TallTrees
Our first car was an Austin A35 van....(Very trendy) 😂
We then went for a Triumph Herald....that was a real rust bucket!
Then a Triumph Stag. (Cost us a bomb to keep running)
Sold it to a dealer, who renovated it. Next thing it was star of the show at many classic car competitions
Both our lads started off with Mini's. Then they went for VW Beetles
Two cars which cost the bank of Mum and Dad a lot of money!!
Then we tried a few of the Japanese cars. Hardly vintage but ran well.
