The new series of Dancing On Ice officially starts in January 2020, although there will be a Christmas Special in 2019.

Last year a few people posted on the thread including @Glory1 so we will see how we go this year.

The main news is Jason Gardiner has left the show and John Barrowman will replace him. So no more nasty comments (shame)

(Not sure how that will work but let's wait and see)....

And that's it. I've counted and there seems to be more contestants this year?

It will be presented as usual by Phil and Holly.

Looking forward to it.

I've changed the title as it's now 2020. wink

The first show got off to a great start. Spectacular opening routine by the professional dancers.

Just 6 skating tonight, the remaining 6 will skate next week.

Joe Swash and Alexandra. Music "Dance With Me Tonight"

I really didn't imagine he would be quite as good. A long way to go though. Scored 21.5

Perri Kiely and Vanessa. Music "Putting On The Ritz"

I admit Perri was one of my favourites as I love Diversity. He did not disappoint. Excellent routine.

Scored 27.5

Lisa George and Tom. Music "When I fall In Love"

Although Lisa has skated before, it was 40 years ago. She had a nasty accident and never set foot on the ice again, until now. Skated well  and scored 26.5

Ben Hanlin and Carlotta. Music "Bring Me To Life"

One of my favourite songs!!. Great 'magical' start and skated ok till he failed to finish on time and nearly lost his balance. Scored 22.5

Trisha Goddard and Lucasz.  Music: "Give it Up"

Mmmmm...Looked very nervous and then took a tumble which affected the rest of the skate. Scored 13.5

With one couple left to skate and it's H and his male partner. I am posting this now before it times out.

Too many damn ad breaks!!

H from Steps and Matt. Music "High Hopes"

Well that was a first! Actually skated very well with a few good spins. It brought John Barrowman to tears. Scored 25.00

Vote now open. Blimey closes in 5 minutes.

Stunning skating and aerial routine from the professionals.

Trisha and Lucasz are in the skate off next week. No surprise there then.

I mean how many times do I need to be told I can sell my car to a single company for the "best price". Of course I can just be ripped off by a nationally advertised chain can't I for having a tiny mark under the wheel arch thus reducing its value.

Oh well, tis the season of DOI and boy was I in for a boring time. Is it me or have they given the stars more time to practice which seemed to be too polished? I'm glad Trish and that magician bloke went wrong unintentionally because it was a bit of a dull fest up till then.

As for the H and Matt pairing. No surprises to get the gushing statements from everyone but in all honesty, it only confirmed that a same-sex pairing unless done by professionals is going to be un-imaginative and difficult to mark. They won't be able to rely on this initial goodwill in 3 weeks time when voters get bored.

As for the second batch, they certainly do look pretty awful based on the group routine so might actually make next week more entertaining!

Also: the show lighting is incredibly harsh and bright. Really showed up how many layers of makeup some are wearing and thats not even in HD.

Re H and Matt, I certainly hope they don't win simply because it's the first same sex couple to appear on a dance show (of this type)

Must admit I wasn't impressed with John Barrowmans reaction. He had so much makeup on it streaked through his tears speak_no_evil

The remaining six celebs and their pros -

Libby Clegg MBE and Mark Hanretty;

Caprice and Hamish Gaman;

Lucrezia Millarini and Brendyn Hatfield;

Maura Higgins and Alexander Demetriou;

Kevin Kilbane and Brianne Delcourt;

Radzi Chinyanganya and Jessica Hatfield - will skate next weekend.

Of course everyone will be watching how partially sighted Libby Clegg performs.

Then there is Radzi who replaced Michael Barrymore and has only been skating for 3 weeks. (There again, the same happened to Kelvin Fletcher on SCD...and look what happened to him!!)

I thought Kevin Kilbane looked the most iffy of the remaining skaters yet to take part.

Re Kevin Kilbane. Should be good fun as he's a footballer well used to falling over on grass. Just watch him rolling around on ice. At least 3 minutes of added on time rofl

Enjoyed the first show. I was surprised by some of the performances but, that said, think it was right that Tricia is in the skate-off next week...

Again, too many ad breaks and too much emphasis on H and same-sex partner...

As much as I love this programme, I am seriously considering recording it in future. The amount of ad breaks and filler is beyond ridiculous.

Someone I know timed it last night, the amount of interesting info i.e. skating, judges comments, professional and group dances etc whittled it down to just under an hour!!!

So I think I will be doing that next week!!

That's also the reason I stopped bothering with The Masked Singer More ads than actual programme time.
