BT apologises for broadband outage.

BT has apologised after "many" users in the UK experienced problems recently connecting to the internet, but says the issue has now been resolved.

"In a statement, a BT spokeswoman said: "There were problems with our broadband service earlier today but these have now been solved. We're sorry for any trouble this may have caused."

She said engineers were investigating the cause of the problem but could not say how many users had been affected or whether the outage had affected all of the UK.

BT provides broadband to seven million UK subscribers.

She said some users could not access specific websites, while others could not connect to the internet at all."

@Anonymous The effect was weird.  We could not get into Kindle, Google Play store, O2 Community and a number of other sites.  I don't know what time of night the problem started but I was only aware of it for about 90 minutes or so.

Poor BT - gotta feel sorry for those guys.  They do try hard but as so often happens it is the CS that lets them down.

I could log onto the O2 forum from 6am but then would only time out a short while after.

Many had different levels of internet usage apparently.

Hi @Gerry. How are you today? All well?

I have been with BT (first broadband and now infinity) for the last 18 months and in their defence the broadband has been great. Now get 75mb on infinity 2 although the wifi signal varies between 40 and 65 with no rhyme not reason for the difference.

Downloading about 75gb a month is effortless for infinity and I have only had a few minutes downtime during that 18 months.

Similar story too @Anonymous although I've been with them a great number of years from Dial Up ,to standard broadband to Bt infinity.

My exchange is a distance so going on option 2 wouldn't make much of a difference.

I get approx 40mbps downloads on unlimited.

My typical usage is 198gb per month.

Blimey BoB what on earth are you doing for 198gb a month? Do you have a dozen kids and sharing your connection with your neighbours lol?

Well for one I have a son who uses x box live extensively !

Various family members have their phones etc connected and I have x4 devices connected now.

And I stream a lot.

When I contact Bt or visa versa they look at my account to see if they can fine tune it and always say "ah, we best keep you on unlimited". slight_smile

Hi @Anonymous   I agree with you.  Overall BT Broadband is very good - but when they do foul up they do it pretty good as well!!!   But like you we have been BT customers for many years and our total downtime because of technical faults  has been minimal. We normal access through wifi because the router is downstairs and our computers are upstairs, with download speed around the 52 Mbps mark and upload around 17Mbps - with both being fairly constant.  So I have resisted all attempts by Talk Talk and Sky to make us jump ship.

To be honest @Anonymous if a service is generally pretty good and you are happy with the price you pay then my advice is to generally stick with the same supplier but push for a discount.

There are cheaper options out there of course but that is no good if you can't get online or spend hours on the phone to their CS.
