please can you tell me why i have had no signal on my phone for over two hours whats the point of a moblie phone if i cant use it?

Check your postcode here http://status.o2.co.uk/ If it shows no problem, call and report it to O2, or click on the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page and report it on chat.

You can also try 'old faithful'. Turn your phone off and on again - sounds like a easy answer, but it will make your phone run through all it's start up processes and cause it to re-register with the nearest transmitter.
As phones get more advanced, they often seem more prone to the annoyances that normally only computers plague us with.
