Seems to be that a few have had problems with MMS on that Handset.
After a quick read there are a few things you can try. Firstly make sure the MMS setting are correct.
Make sure the data network connection is switched on.
I believe there is also a MMS section for notifications, try switching them on.
After each thing make sure you reboot the phone for the settings to be excepted.
If you get no joy then come back and we will see what else we can come up with for you.

Go yo the App store on Market Place and download 'Network Setup'. Choose O2 then once set up, reboot the phone and try sending yourself a picture.

Just trawled the Nokia forums for you and it seems you are not alone and it is in fact a Nokia issue.
Some have installed the latest software update and it has solved the problem.
One guy gives a solution after extensive research but it is for vodafone but it may help you.
Here is the link and it is the last post..... you would obviously have to do the same but replace o2 with vodafone.

Drop an email into O2 (under contact at the bottom of the page) state everything you have done and tried.
Give them another chance to rectify the issue then if not you have grounds for them to help move you onto another phone.
