Also, alas there is no GSM setting - it's 3G or Emergancy only! I have even tried to piggy back onto other networks - but have not been able to ...
You can't connect to another network but you can turn off 3G:

There's a useful app mentioned too.

@Perksie....
You have 2 options in an 800 Lumina - 3G or E -E meaning absolutely nothing to be honest. Data connectivity is TOTALLY different from voice/text connectivity - I only switch data on if I am sending a photograph to someone!
I don't think you have fully understood the query - or my "huff" - which was that O2 has taken it's time about fixing a Mast which is having issues, and we still cannot make calls although I have now received texts from yesterday MORNING! So it has been well over 24hours of nothing!

It can take several weeks to fix some of these problems, so you will need to be patient.

o2 can take a day to 14 plus days to fix a mast depending on many factors some outside there control.
Many threads on here about the time taken.
The mast may be on land they have to get permission to go on and the fault may not be a simple hardware issue it could be as complex as the whole site being vandalised or metal theft etc etc.
At least o2 tell you via the status page there is an issue from what I understand the only betwork at present to do so.
