This made interesting reading especially this bit :

Poole says: “This fix will also cause users to think, ‘my phone is slow so I should replace it’ not, ‘my phone is slow so I should replace its battery’.

Apple reduces speed of iPhones as batteries wear out, report suggests

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/dec/19/apple-iphone-reduce-speed-old-batteries?CMP=Share...

So help me out here the more technical amongst you...

Do these bench test actually mean anything? Is this at all possible or likely?

Or is this just the Guardian selling papers with fake news?

I think the average user would notice very little difference.

I’ve got an iPad Air (1st gen) and noticed considerable slow down after installing iOS 11 but I thought it was down to the software being tuned for the new processors, not Apple slowing stuff down..

cant say I’m thrilled!

Tablets and iPads are the worst for slowing down over time.
Generally they are as well spec'd as phones are to start with (like for like) and the big screens and less RAM take it out of the processors too.

Yes it's just been on BBC news whilst I was reading this post. The reporter said 'Apple deny they do this in order to make people buy new devices'...Haha. I may be old but I'm not daft..."With age comes wisdom" tongue_winking

Apple fans don't need a slow phone to get them to upgrade.
All Apple have to do is change the model number every year!
