I am wondering if O2 themselves can shed some light on why the iPhone 5 is currently only available on 24 month contracts?
As an existing customer with any other phone I can upgrade to a 12 month contract but it is not giving me the option on the iPhone 5.
If this is in fact the case I think it's ridiculous that O2 are taking advantage of the situation and not being loyal to their exisiting customers (as this is what they bang on about a lot). ie. 12 month contracts for exisiting customers (which is advertised in their current magazine).
Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

@Anonymous wrote:Apparently by EU law they have to offer 12 month contracts on upgrades. If this is true then 02 are clearly breaking the law.
So you believe that you have the proof.....why don't you report it to OFCOM ?

I will, but you have to complain too o2 first and get a 'dead lock' letter from them if you can't agree on a resolution.

I understand that only applies to complaints which this isn't.....if you have proof of non-compliance then I believe it can be reported to OFCOM for investigation.

If yu compalin there is no 12 month contract and they refuse to introduce them, then there is deadlock, then you can complain to Ofcom.

Once any legislation is contravened there is no going back to status quo if subsequently the party agrees not to contravene the law.
If you have proof that legislation has been contravened by O2 then you should report it to OFCOM.
The process you describe is for general operational complaints only.

For those of you who pre-ordered your iPhone 5, its a bit late now... but from today O2 ARE offering the iPhone 5, upgrade only, on 12 month contract... If I could post an image, I would show you the contract I got at the Apple Store this morning

There's no such option online and no mention anywhere else. I'm not saying you're lying - O2 might have silently added the option to the upgrade systems. It's not available on their website though (in the upgrade section) and they haven't mentioned it anywhere online, on the phone or on Twitter.
I gave O2 as long as I could but my wife and I have just taken up new 12 month contracts with Vodafone. The lady at O2 who gave me my PAC code gave the impression that there were quite a few people in a similar boat who were leaving because of the lack of shorter contracts.
If O2 have no desire to show any loyalty to me then it's time I give up my loyalty to them. I've had a (mostly) good 12 years of business with O2 but time has come for me to move on.

Its not too late as they will have a cooling off period.
O2 are not offering this in the shops since I got mine from an O2 store this morning. Apple do not sell subsidised iPhones anymore so you most likley have a sim only 12 month contract.

I walked away from position 3 in the queue at the O2 store this morning because they could not give me a 12 month contract, only a 24 month contract. If anyone has got a 12 month contract from the stores I'd like to know!

I notice that O2s Contract Cancellation team is so busy today that they cannot even add your call to the queue. They just tell you that they have too many calls and that you will have to call back later.
I can only think this is the volume of people cancelling from the lack of 12 month contracts and taking up a shorter contract. 12 months with Vodafone or 18 months with Orange or T-Mobile.
