X10 firmware update, when (if?) is it coming?

Seeing as how the rest of the world has this update (including O2 in Ireland) does anyone know if this will ever see the light of day in the UK?

The last I heard from tech support is that there was 'no timescale' for the new firmware. Back in my dark days in IT that usually meant 'when we can be bothered' or 'never'. A pity, seeing as it solves quite a few issues and improves performance of the phone.

Have O2 gone down the road of the X1, Aino and Satio and just abandoned the X10? Or is it worth waiting? Or do we just de-brand to get support from Sony Ericsson?

Yes it has the backup restore option and although obviously I haven't had it on for long battery use appears slightly better so far.

Installed this last night via SEUS.

If anyone if confused this is NOT the same as the Support Zone in PC Companion - that said my phone was up to date as did the 'Software Update' option in the phones settings (so no OTA). If you don't have it SEUS is available for download from SE here:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support ... c=gb&lc=en

My phone was 80% last night when I went to bed and still had >50% charge this morning! That hasn't happened before and a promising (if unscientific) first impression. :smileyhappy:

Have you checked the version number to show that it really is the latest version you've installed? I've got a PAYG model from an O2 store (I'm on an O2 contract though) and the SEUS says that the previous version is still the latest I can have.

What does your version say when you look at it in the menus?

Firmware version remains 1.6 as before (this isn't upgrade to 2.x yet) - build number however is upgraded to R2BA026 (from R1xxx).

Battery life if massively improved due to phones better handling of wifi, 3g etc. and I suspect management of background processes.

One new feature I have mixed feelings about is the Purity WiFi - very useful for finding those free BTOpenZone and Cloud hotspots when out and about, but I do wish it would let me switch off the notification bar icon when I'm happily connected at home/work to established routers but it insists on telling me about all those other networks in range!

Finally, my Mini X10 Pro was notified of an update via the Sony Ericsson Update Service. The firmware has now been upgraded.
Unfortunately, this was the day before I sold my X10 Pro on eBay - bye bye!

Android 2.1 was supposed to be out on the 23rd of this month (Sept) which was bombed on the actual day promised by SE via Twitter/SE Blogs and other sources.
Whilst other Android phones are running 2.1 & 2.2 we are having to wait until late October/November for 2.1.
My advice is WAIT to order an x10 if that's the phone you were thinking of. Hopefully I'm wrong but the x10 may be abandoned and stuck on 1.6.
More info can be found here: http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2010/09/23/update-on-updates/
Be advised though - some of the close to 2000 furious x10 users comments may offend you.
