I've been on holiday in Hungary and I have sent some texts home, and to other countries in Europe. O2 kindly sends me a text when I use a lot of data, but the text says 'you have spent £X on data outside Europe'. I have neither been outside Europe nor sent any messages outside Europe. They should correct this mistake.

Not just a "cross border" you need to watch out for. Was on the Greek island of Kos a couple of years back and the mobile picked up a Turkish network for about half a day. Logging on to the net on that would have been a tad expensive.

yes but that is cross border.
I was in turkey near a greek island and i could manually select the greek network for cheaper calls home .
