What do you think of O2 4G so far

I know that there are lots of Topics of when I will be getting 4G etc, but I thought It would be interesting to see if people do like 4G?

So where i live, I can get 3G, if I walk 200 yards outside up the street I get 4G (From a Mast a couple of Miles away), but even though I cant get 4G in my house, I have however noticed that since 4G is some what in the area, other people must be using it as my 3G speeds have increased, not by much, but they have got better.

However my overall impression on O2 4G is very good. I have noticed more and more places getting 4G and some places now have 3G when they only had gprs.

The speed of the roll out is impressive too I have to say. 3G took for ever, infact I gave up on it, but 4G is rolling out much faster.

However I have come to notice that its very sporidic in areas, so for instance. one mast may get updated in the town and then the others are a couple months down the line.

Not sure how some places get it before others, I can only think that the backhaul to the mast is their and ready.

4G is patchy as well, its like a patchwork quilt lol. But it can only improve.

So some of my views,

Whats yours? Good or Bad

I live in Keighley, West Yorkshire and I did a speed test using my nexus 5 on 3g and got 0.83mb download speed. I then did another test on 4G and achieved 13.4mb download speed. My home broadband runs at 8mb download, so the 4G is awesome.
It's tonnes faster, but for everyday browsing, I honestly can't tell much difference. But for watching videos etc... it's pretty instant

I don't run speed tests very often, as they do tend to waste a lot of data. But this was my latest test on 3G:

To be honest though, depending on the time of day, I'm more likely to see speeds of around 2 to 3 Mb/sec. But even those sort of speeds are good enough for what I need to do, and as I said earlier, it represents a noticeable improvement on what I used to be getting. Personally speaking, I don't think people should be buying 4G just to enjoy a decent broadband experience, they should be getting that anyway.

@Anonymous I thought it was just me that was experiencing this issue with receiving a 4G signal and no 2G/3G signal, o2 state I'm not in a 4G area, however I can see 4G on my phone. After speaking to network services about this they don't seem to want to help except tell me I must be wrong because the coverage map they are looking at states I'm in a great 3G area!

Getting rather frustrated now because a lot of my calls are dropping and I have to keep on putting my phone in to GSM mode only otherwise I miss calls.....if only o2 brought out WiFi calling my problems would be solved!

Absolutely love o2 4g... I get it in my front garden (the beach) now too.! So I'm happy with it and I never, ever manage to use up my 5gb either so it's plenty for the price.

having been using it since it was first available in London it's disappointing that the speeds have dropped so much from the 45Mb/s to an average of around 8Mb/s which is slower than HSPA+, though the upload speeds are generally higher than download.

It still beats my OH's home broadband hands down though.

My home area gets around 18 both up and down, I've never seen the speeds got by others unless I travel to Manchester. Still, it's consistent and a big improvement on the poor network issues I had previously.

I've again noticed 4G appearing in places that don't have 3G. The signal def travels much better with it being the 800mhz. i get 20+ most of the time, 30+ in a few area and 64max of 2 brand new masts in Rotherham.

I've also noticed that the speed is dependant on time of day etc and location. More masts in the area, the speed is better, less masts means lower speeds as more people are using the one mast.

When new areas pop up I do speed tests straight away to see if any will top 64mbs I've had, none at moment but will post if it happens. One day lol
