My 2 year contract is complete and for the first time ever when upgrading, I have been told that I am unable to upgrade online and have to contact O2 by telephone.
Can anyone explain why I should be put to the hassle of hanging about on the telephone when it is much faster to upgrade via the website as I have done for years?

Thanks for the response. I was not given a reason, merely told I should telephone. This has never happened before

I'd much rather go into a shop for an upgrade anyway, means you get the phone there and then rather than having to wait!
Stuff hanging about on the phone!

Chosen mobile never been out of stock to date but it looks like I will be going out shopping this time.
Nearest O2 store - 20 miles away. Oh, the joys of living in the countryside

I have been with o2 for over 10 years and they have always been very helpful in upgrading. They offer me good deals and 'loyalty bolt ons', which are very good, and quite frankly, stop me from going to another provider.
Ive been really happy with my iphone4 and as such, I am 12 months overdue on my upgrade. I rang a couple of weeks ago to find out my options and they said wait until iphone5s comes out. I have just spoken to them today and I would have to pay each month for the handset, and i cant get a normal iphone 5 as they dont stock them any more. for my 'upgrade' and my loyalty, o2 want to charge me £45 per month: £15 more than i currently pay. The fact i have been with them over 10 years doesnt count for anything and I am shocked at how unhelpful o2 have been during this upgrade, and how little incentive i have been given / offered!!!!

Unfortunately we hear this all the time now and it's normal business policy for O2 these days. Shop around and you will probably get the same deals on O2 much cheaper from the independents such as CPW etc.

True, you may have got a poor deal on iPhone 4.
I just think in the 'loyalty' world we live in, organisations should be going above any beyond to keep real, genuine customers happy. Not the people who complain at everything, i mean reward the people who have consistantly paid their bill on time for the past 10 years!
The costs they were quoting me for an upgrade were completely rediculous. I have always been a fan of o2 but i think this time im heading for the door to find a better deal as a 'new' customer elsewhere.
