Is it possible to amend the name of an email account (Hotmail) or create a new one and still have the emails from the old email address diverted to the new one without others having to add a new email address to their contacts?

Sorry I thought I made it clearer in my earlier post.
It is bizarre that it asks for an existing email address and then when I try to add it, it says you cannot use it as it already exists.
I went through all of the options in the email account settings and I found a security one with my old email address in (which I saved when I created the new account in case I am unable to gain access). So I deleted that security option and I hoped that it would work but it still hasn't worked 😞
I'm going to have to have a think about how I'm going to organise these email accounts.
Thanks for all of your help Seacat and I'll let you know if I figure it out.

Hi Toby.
I am still waiting for a response from Microsoft support regarding this.
I have tried to add the alias again and it is still saying I can't add it as a new email address as it is already taken (by me) but it still will not let me add it as an existing email address.
I'll update this post when I get a response.

Every time I click on the link in my email (automated response after submitting support form) it says that my email address is not allowed to view this incident.
