Sky Confirm MVNO on o2 Platform

Sky have confirmed plans to launch an MVNO on the o2 network.

For o2 already struggling with capacity this could place more pressure on the network to the detriment of users.

On the one hand, you wonder how this network is going to find enough spare bandwidth capacity to help run another MVNO. But then of course, by the time it actually happens, we may already be part of a much bigger network anyway.

But couldn't Three then overturn any such agreement, if it didn't fit in with their overall business plan?

Most certainly yes @Ian, if Three were unhappy with the arrangement. ....

My guess is that Sky have been opportunistic. They saw the potential that Three may go for o2. The more trade o2 has the higher the valuation. So Sky get a cracking deal and Telefonica may get a couple of hundred million quid extra for their asset.

Or as is more likely the discounts will reduce as loyalty is the target.

Prices are more likely to increase given the higher costs anticipated in the current Premier League bidding round. BT Sport will bid high as they are trying to push Sky out so BT prices likely to rise too.

Sadly and regrettably @anticpated I will have to agree with you. I personallyb think o2 should get the network sorted out first but hey, why should I care. I won't be here

I think possibly Telefonicia are worrying how they can justify their massive pay rises this year when the profit sheet isn't looking so good. So rather than spend money to keep customers, they're taking the easier way out by selling out to cheaper rival companies whom will more than certainly either reduce the company's standing or improve it meteoric.

I've been O2 for years although I can see a change to another provider being another option. My 3G reception is generally below par locally and it's only when I venture to other towns/cities the reception is superior. Every network has blackspots however these are areas which never used to be.

All this hype about 4G is all very well although I only managed to get receive HSPA+ in other areas or with other network SIM. One time I called O2 the guy suggested that my telephone's aerial was weak and not receiving signals correctly. Some nonsense anyway.

So I do have gripes with this network and don't even mention Anovo....

However for all their warts and whatnots at least O2 has been consistent. I feel a bad change in network will place them in the same league as Talktalk. Cheapen things too much, kiss your quality service goodbye.

I've had a Three account for a number of years (originally when they were really rubbish but at least they had 3g when many others didn't) and I've seen them change over the years to what is now a very good network. They will also bend over backwards to retain customers by offering virtually the world if you push them far enough.
I think you'd be surprised if you tried them out now.....

I have a 3 SIM P&G which I used to test whether my "rooted" telephone was SIM-free and able to work on other networks.  You never know what is around the corner.
