Say Goodbye to Unlimited Data Tariffs

Anonymous

Looks like O2 are going to follow AT&T's lead by getting rid of the Unlimited Data tariffs for smartphones and iPhones.

Doesn't even look like they're goig to do an unlimited data bolt on!

This could get very expensive!

Just found this on Which Website

haha if you say so sheepdog!! but seriously why not get an android based phone instead like the htc desire etc android software is supposed to be just as good if not better than the iphone software... although i guess it doesnt address the whole data limit polava (dont know/care if thats spelt right) 😐

i tried that phone (htc) on voda last year , crashed in 2 hrs , offered a replacement i said no thanks ,didnt like it 1 bit

Yep tried the HTC desire.....did not like it one bit and went back to my iPhone. And this is the point that Apple have me so tied into the iPhone that its part of my life (sad i know) O2 are making a school boy error here because i will have a phone that i cant use

Is the 700 KB figure incorrect?

Not far out, I've just downloaded the O2 home page on my trusty Nokia 9300i and it was just over 600KB.

Thanks for this info. Do you need to download that amount of data every time you access the website?

Interesting question. That would depend on how much the browser would be able to cache and what has changed on the site since the last visit.

Just tried going to the site again and it only downloaded around 300KB so presumably there was quite a bit of the site cached.

If i'm right I think you meant Chances, if so it kinda depends on a few factors.

How many take iPhone 4 with O2, type of publicity negative or otherwise, how well other networks do with possible O2 abandonees etc.

Anything is possible, shame if they make a change after many including myself have left.

I'm confused here. It says that if you stay on your plan and tarriff etc you get to keep your unlimited.

What if i do a handset upgrade only keeping my same tariff but get a new blackberry and just extend my contract for another 18 months, will i still lose my current unlimited bb data in october?

I dont' see why it should change over in October, unless they do it automatically.

Also, I notice they say it has 'unlimited uk wifi' which will change to 'limited' into the 500mb etc, i dont follow does that mean if i use my wifi network at home not using the o2 service at all does that still count towards my 500mb??

Remember that Orange has a 750MB FUP only, which means you won't be charged if you go over. You may get a warning or a brief speed cut if you're really excessive (3-5GB).
Vodafone have 1GB limit, then charge £5 per 500MB chunk.
500MB for O2? When it was unlimited before?
No thanks.
If allegedly 97% don't use more than 500MB, then why are approx 97% pissed off with O2 on here and on Facebook???
Not upgrading now.

That will be because 97% of people havent a clue how much they use.

From reading various post on this site, the counters seem a bit hit and miss, not tallying with whats on the bill.
Hence 97 % haven't a clue.

All the estimates of what you can get for your 500mb seem to vary tremendously.

I was told O2 currently invest approx £1,000,000 into upgrading the mobile data network per day.
The same data network everyone moans about because of poor speeds, outages ect.

Speeds especially are mainly affected by heavy users on the network consuming more bandwidth than the majority. As someone said 97% of users don't use over the 500mb currently on iPhone tarrifs they won't be affected.

The only ones mainly being directly affected will be the ones who put more strain on the network. O2's new pricing means if you want to use more than most people, you need to pay more than them. This is hopefully to increase proffit so the proffit can be used to make a more reliable and consistant experience ont he O2 data network as currently it seems the 1 million or so a day isn't substantial.
It amuses me the people saying they will jump shit purely out of spite even knowing other operators are very similar.
The mobile market has been stale for proffit compared to most other large business's in the UK. Competition means constantly driving down prices to retain customers...seems as if now it's got to the stage to maintain low prices, cuts have to be put in place.

Logical move by O2...sure it's going to upset a few people but makes business sense to fall back in line with other operators to save money or make more revenue to "stay in the game"

Seems you can't keep people happy no matter what you do
Put up prices for everyone to compensate for the heavy users - almost everyone gets annoyed and a large amount will jump to another provider
Leave the network running as it is with slow speeds / poor signals and frequence outages - almost everyone gets annoyed and a large amount will jump to another provider
Introduce limits for the tarriff so the majority aren't effect and only the heavy users have to pay more to use more - only the minority get annoyed and i f they jump ship to another provider it's gonna be about the same or as someone pointed out with 3's over using prices potentially much worse.
