Say Goodbye to Unlimited Data Tariffs

Anonymous

Looks like O2 are going to follow AT&T's lead by getting rid of the Unlimited Data tariffs for smartphones and iPhones.

Doesn't even look like they're goig to do an unlimited data bolt on!

This could get very expensive!

Just found this on Which Website

Well I did write my 2 cents worth last night but it appears my account was deleted and post removed so I cant even have my say by the looks of it. So I cant be bothered to repost it all but it looks like o2 have found there cash cow and I will be leaving asap out of principle. They had exclusivity on iphone for a long time some of that could have been reinvested in QoS on there network and realistic fair usage limits applied to heavy users.

To those that are happy with this decision you probably bought it as a fashion statement and its enough for constant facebook right?

To the rest of us that enjoy the full range of features on our smartphones dark expensive times lay ahead and any really useful features away from home are now crippled google maps for example pointless at home on my wifi dont get lost or need directions in my home and to think im gonna pay extra to use this! My £80 tom tom sat nav app, gonna cost my £5 everytime I wanna use that I dont think so.

So thanks o2 for ruining it for everyone

Come on 3 you need customers do the right thing

Wouldnt the easiest solution be to buy the iphone 4 on pay as you go simplicity, which is £20 a month 300 mins unlimited text 500mb. then if you go over you have to pay another £5 or £10 taking your bill to £25 / £30 a month. thats quite good if you ask me?

Obviously this also depends on how much they sell the phone for which my guess would be £500 to £ 550 easy.

Somebody said that with 500mb you could watch 60 youtube vids and look at 5000 internet pages so lets do the math. that means you could look at 161 pages a day everyday for a month. who would seriously look at that many pages in a month without using wifi aswell?

by the way is there something going on with multi media messages? i thought they were tied into your sms's messages?

Not all of us has £500 (+early upgrade costs) available to them I'm afraid.

The 5000 internet page thing is the simplest internet pages, someone posted that loading up the o2 home page for instance consumes 700 kb (i.e. you'd be limited to loading it up 22 times a day over a month). Also, that is assuming you don't use your 3G for anything else. What about people who want to use the likes of TomTom or Spotify on their iPhone?

I think you've missed the point. You get minimum 500 MB for free, some people will get 1GB free. That's more than enough to use Google Maps or a Sat Nav app.

If you go over, you pay £5 for an extra 500Mb for the month. That's not quite "£5 every time", and a lot better than Three, who give everyone 500MB for free, and charge 10p / MB over, equivalent of £100 / GB!

Think of it this way... with the free allowances included, if you use 1.5GB, Three will charge you £100, O2 will charge you £10. Seems fair to me.

Agreed. I bought the iPhone to use it, not to look at it or to look cool. Its a smart internet enabled phone and to have such a small limit is crap. Am i going to have to watch everytime i use it??? think on o2, i would rather go somewhere else first

You posts were probably deleted for breaking the forum rules....... that is my mantra... so pack it in! slight_smile

If you had your account deleted then I suggest you were bang out of order.

The "thanks for ruining it for everyone" makes you sound like a male chicken!

You don't get 500mb for free, it's included in your contract for which you pay for.

Oh and regardless of what you think or feel you should only post nice and pretty things about O2.

Just one more reason to go elsewhere, preservation of freedom of speech.

I take it you aren't talking to me?

I am one of O2's biggest critics and have the deleted post PM's to prove it!

BUT, on this occasion, they are spot on.
