Say Goodbye to Unlimited Data Tariffs

Anonymous
Not applicable
Looks like O2 are going to follow AT&T's lead by getting rid of the Unlimited Data tariffs for smartphones and iPhones.

Doesn't even look like they're goig to do an unlimited data bolt on!

This could get very expensive!

Just found this on Which Website

You don't get 500mb for free, it's included in your contract for which you pay for.
Oh and regardless of what you think or feel you should only post nice and pretty things about O2.
Just one more reason to go elsewhere, preservation of freedom of speech.

I take it you aren't talking to me?
I am one of O2's biggest critics and have the deleted post PM's to prove it!
BUT, on this occasion, they are spot on.

Not at all, one of my posts that was perfectly polite and purely my opinion was deleted by the bad mouth police just because it didn't blow smoke up where the sun doesn't shine for O2.

it cant be right that 22 pages would consume your monthly limit thats just stupid? surley the 500mb must go a long way, surly!

Steve,

This is from O2:

"Under typical data usage, 500 megabytes amounts to watching 60 YouTube videos. It also amounts to downloading 50 music tracks or looking at 5,000 web pages"

Do you think O2 have given real life estimates with that figure.

Take an average newspaper site, check the page size of the home page alone and then work out if those figures are accurate from a users perspective

The war has only just began for the iphone 4 tariff and battle plans always change. i can see allot of people leaving 02 then only to regret it! 02 will eventually sort this out be it 6 months down the line but i've never had a problem with 02. they have always been fair and i get a really good signal where i live.

orange and vodafone are crap and thats from personal experiance id never deal with them again!!

this will all blow over soon enough and new bolt on unlimited date will be available sooner than you think!

in 02 i trust

This is kinda the point, why should we have to go from "Unlimited" usage to paying the same amount and more for bolt ons when you take into account that O2 is so far from broke as can be.

i'm not saying there right in what they have done, far from it. it's just that every phone provider has done the same and now we have to choose who we stick with. and ill be sticking with 02 who imo will eventually put it right.

@markle

I think you've missed the point. You get minimum 500 MB for free, some people will get 1GB free. That's more than enough to use Google Maps or a Sat Nav app.

I think you missed the point I dont just use sat nav once a month and what about
other applications I use internet radio, streaming tv, remote desktop. I rely
on this phone for a connection back to base when im often away working or to
keep me entertained

If you go over, you pay £5 for an extra 500Mb for the month. That's not quite "£5 every time", and a lot better than Three, who give everyone 500MB for free, and charge 10p / MB over, equivalent of £100 / GB!

See above how long do you realistically think 500mb lasts? I know cause I looked
at my usage the extra £5 will double my contract a month

Think of it this way... with the free allowances included, if you use 1.5GB, Three will charge you £100, O2 will charge you £10. Seems fair to me.

My point about 3 was they got a smaller customer base if they wanted to increase
it rapidly unlimited data for there new iphone package would be a quick way to
win market share I wasn't in any way saying there current policy is better.

@ancientferguson

You posts were probably deleted for breaking the forum rules....... that is my mantra... so pack it in!

nothing offensive in my post most likely my user name they took exception too

If you had your account deleted then I suggest you were bang out of order.

I doubt it really was "bang out of order" just offensive to o2

The "thanks for ruining it for everyone" makes you sound like a male chicken!

Dont really think it does? this has a negative impact for the whole smartphone
market and can only serve to stunt growth, have a negative impact for app
developers, and generally spoil the experience for consumers as a whole.
Do you even own an iphone? or still rockin the nokia 3310

Just take the 60 youtube videos for example on your lunch break you watch 5 videos a day, by day 12 just under half way through the month your out of mb let alone if u wanted to do anything else with your device. Realistically from there figures 1 youtube video a day some light surfing and downloading some emailed photos of the kids would put you over each month and thats about 5% of what the phone can do.
